I have had the pleasure of studying clarinet with Clara Byom for the last 4 years, as an adult student with some prior experience. Clara has great teaching skills, ample patience, and deep musical knowledge, experience, and ability. In my opinion, Clara Byom is a phenomenal musicologist as well as a wonderful music teacher! During the time I have seen her for clarinet lessons, Clara has been incredibly helpful in many ways. In the beginning of the lessons we talked about what I wanted to learn and re-learn. I wanted to learn Klezmer Music and re-learn scales and majors and minors. She helped me join the Community Klezmer Band led by Beth Cohen and Clara helped me learn a lot of Klezmer music and she helped me understand Freygish and Misheberakh. Clara’s suggestions have been very helpful and positive and she also has increased my confidence. Her sense of humor also makes for great lessons. Within less than a year, I’ve learned so much from Clara, but I still plan to continue because there still are lots of things I want to learn. I can’t think of anyone better than Clara to teach me many more things she knows about clarinet music.
